June 23rd, 2011: PNS Zulfiquar carrying 22 crew members of the Merchant Vessel Suez arrived Karachi dockyard today. Captain Wasi Hassan, Engineer Syed Alam, Chief Officer Ali Rehman and Diesel Mechanic Muzzamil alongwith eleven Egyptian, six Indians and one Srilankan. Aforesaid above men were made hostages by somali pirates more than 10 months, and were released with the efforts by Pakistani Human Rights' activitist Ansar Burney. Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan, Ansar Burney, daughter of Captain Wasi Hassan, Navy officials and well-wishers of freed hostages warmly welcomed to them on their arrival.

KARACHI: Rescued from captivity of Somali pirates after about 10 months, the 22-member crew of merchant vessel MV Suez reached Karachi on Thursday, ARY NEWS reports. The crew was onboad on Pakistan navy warship PNS Zulfiqar. The naval base of the Karachi port was tastefully decorated to accord a warm welcome the released crew on the occasion. Navy commandos on boats provided security to the vessel carrying sailors, including four Pakistani nationals, six Indians, 11 Egyptians and a Sri Lankan. Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat Ul-Ebad, high naval officials, a large number of media persons and relatives of the released Pakistani crew. Pakistan navy warship carrying the crew of the MV Suez arrived in Karachi, a private television news channels reported on Thursday. Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad, Ansar Burney and family members of the Pakistani crew welcomed them back home. The crew included 4 Pakistanis, 6 Indians, 11 Egyptians, and 1 Sri Lankan and were kidnapped by Somali pirates and held hostage for ten months. Speaking to the media after the arrival of the crew, human rights advocate, Ansar Burney thanked Navy Chief Admiral Noman Bashir and ISI Chief General Shuja Pasha for the role they played in bringing the crew back home. Another report says; Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has expressed sentiments of joy and happiness over the safe return of 22 Merchant Navy sailors of MV Suez freed from the Somali pirates, who reached Karachi on Thursday. The Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes and warm felicitations to the Pakistani and foreign sailors on the happy rejoining to their families by the grace of Almighty Allah.
